PrincipalĀ“s Welcome

Nau mai haere mai ki te kura tuarua o Takapuna.  Welcome to Takapuna Grammar.

He mihi tino mahana ki a koutou i tēnei wā.  A warm greeting to you all at this time.

Tēna koutou katoa.

I am proud to be the 10th Principal of Takapuna Grammar School and it is good to be here. I have been warmly welcomed by the Board of Trustees and the entire school during my powhiri and introductory assemblies. I am looking forward to learning about the school, meeting the community and seeking input from staff, students and parents about what you would like to see included in the direction of the school over the next period of time.

We are living in exciting times for education as we prepare our students to be the best they can be academically and all round. We want each individual to thrive in our fast changing world where there is more knowledge than ever before in history, more global connectedness and a blurring of previously defined boundaries such those associated with trading and socialising.

There are opportunities for a wide variety of talents to take advantage of this and make a significant positive contribution to our community and further afield.  Takapuna Grammar School is a big, diverse family and we value each student’s uniqueness. There is an ever increasing array of ways to participate in and outside the classroom that develop a sense of belonging, foster collaboration and further advantage every student to develop a wide range of skills and qualities for success in today’s world. Teachers are students and students are teachers now and the positive relationships between them help make school even more enjoyable.

The government has signalled the value of this iconic learning institution with the investment in re-developing the main building as an innovative teaching and learning environment. This is a significant project and will open in stages from the start of 2017. The planning for this re-development includes that school is well set up to function effectively alongside the building timeline.

Next year the school will celebrate its 90th birthday. I look forward to this milestone and the opportunity to showcase the history and traditions of this fine school alongside the array of contemporary learning opportunities that make school fun and demonstrate all our students are at the forefront of our decisions.
