Introducing Mr. Robert Dil...
Robert is new to the department in 2017, having previously taught drama and music in South Auckland, Beijing, Shanghai and Wellington. He is highly experienced and specialises in Musical Theatre. As a musician, Robert plays the clarinet, flute, and saxophone. He is also trained in singing. Robert has clocked up over 100 professional learning hours on Broadway in New York City, training with Broadway Director's, Musical Director's, Choreographers and other theatre practitioners.
Robert has worked professionally as a Children's Theatre Director and he is also passionate about puppetry. His puppetry teacher works on Sesame Street and was in the original Broadway cast of Avenue Q. They have currently clocked up 9 hours of private lesson workshops. Robert has also played professionally in bands and orchestras for productions such as The Phantom of the Opera, Sweeney Todd and Into the Woods.
He has been a freelance musician playing with the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, including performances with the Royal NZ Ballet, with Dave Dobbyn, Bic Runga and he also loved playing the Bass Clarinet part in Gershwin's An American in Paris.
Robert holds a Masters degree in Drama & Theatre for Young People (with Distinction), a Graduate Diploma of Teaching and Learning (Primary), a Bachelor of Music degree (Performance) and DipABRSM (Clarinet).
Robert is teaching our NCEA Level 2 & 3 Musical Theatre Class, Drama in Year 9 through Level 2, directing the Junior Concert Band and is serving as the Musical Director for our 2017, 90th Anniversary, school production of GREASE, looking after both vocals and the show band.
