Latest Update: Covid-19 Alert L3 - Letter to Parents, Caregivers (14/08)
Dear parents and whanau,
I want to give you an update before the weekend about next steps for staff and students at TGS.
Thank you for supporting our students in following the plans outlined for the return to remote learning programmes. The initial advice from the Prime Minister was that Auckland would be at Alert Level 3 for three days. Now it is apparent the COVID-19 situation is developing and further steps may be required. It seems likely that Auckland at least will remain at Level 3 and the school is anticipating what might be needed if a move to Level 4 is required during the next period of time. We want to be well prepared in case this is needed so students remain confident about their learning and achievement for the year.
The senior leadership team has been discussing options over the past few days for various scenarios at both these alert levels. We are waiting until the government announcement later today to see which plans to put in place, if any are needed. We will implement strategies now or later in the term that suitably address important areas of school focus whatever the alert level is. This includes assessments, preparation for and delivery of TGS practice examinations for NCEA and IB, parent-teacher interviews, enrolments, general teaching, future planning, co-curricular and social events and any other areas that emerge.
I will inform you of the details on Monday and at regular intervals after that.
We all hope to be back at school soon and we are looking forward to that. In the meantime, we are building on the solid base our teachers and students established over Terms One and Two where they successfully undertook a combination of remote and face to face learning. The excellent relationships between staff and students have been further enhanced this year with us having to adapt to new challenges. Links between school and parents have also been strengthened. I am very proud of this collaboration and optimistic about the ongoing benefits for our students for the rest of this year.
Thank you all for working together with the school and encouraging and supporting each other, our staff and our students. I will be in touch again soon.
