Year 12 IB students in the Dragons Den
Year 12 IB1 students presented their ideas for the Extended Essay to a panel of teachers this week. As part of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme students are required to plan, research and write an academic essay on an area chosen by the students. This year's cohort presented some fantastic proposals including investigating Auckland's waste programme, the use of visualisation by performance athletes and ecotourism in developing countries.
The teachers critiqued their ideas and provided them with invaluable feedback. The students will now work closely with a teacher supervisor to complete the essay and have two days in the library to carry out academic research. As part of the process they will learn how to research effectively and use academic referencing which are invaluable skills for tertiary education. Our students report a huge sense of satisfaction upon completing the Extended Essay and thoroughly enjoy researching a topic of personal interest.
