Year 11 Geography Students hit the CBD
Level 1 Geographers undertook their first field trip of the year on Monday 27 March. Luckily the sun was shining as we headed over on the Devonport ferry to Auckland’s CBD to gather some primary data for our research internal assessment.
Year 11's were set the task of investigating and comparing the main uses of 3 different precincts of the Auckland waterfront (Commercial Bay, Viaduct Harbour and Wynyard Quarter).
While in town, students collected information on the different land uses in each space, completed pedestrian counts and conducted surveys to figure out people’s primary reasons for using each precinct. This trip was also a great opportunity for students to observe in reality the theory and principles behind urban design and growth that we have been learning about for the first part of the year. Once back at school, students will present this data, draw conclusions about the different patterns of land use and evaluate their data sources to gain 5 credits.
