Outstanding Individual Sporting Results

We have had some outstanding results from 5 of our TGS athletes over the holidays in their respective individual sporting codes.

Natalie Sayes competed in the AON New Zealand Junior Squash Open over the school holidays, with 125 of New Zealand’s top junior players on display. The Women’s Junior Open final saw Auckland’s Natalie taking on Waikato’s Sophie Hodges. Natalie claimed the match and was crowned the AON New Zealand Junior Squash Open winner!

Liam Vogel qualified to compete in 9 events at the AON NZ Age Group Swimming Championships which took place in Wellington from 19 to 23 April 2021. Of the 9 events, Liam qualified to swim in 8 of the 9 final races. Liam placed first three Age Group Individual National Titles in 50m backstroke; 100m backstroke and 200m fly! He also swam 17 PB’s and also won a bronze medal in the 200m backstroke.

Maggie Squire competed at the North Island Diving Champs last month where she won 6 gold medals and 1 silver medal across both age group and open women's events! Good luck for the Nationals and fingers crossed you get to compete in Australia next month too!

Joe Millington has been busy in the below events over the last few weeks. At the Giant 2W in Rotorua he placed 2nd in the under 18 age group. At the Cable Bay Enduro in Nelson he placed 7th in the under 18 age group. At the Karapoti Classic in Wellington he placed 4th in the under 18 (non-elite) age group. Well done Joe and a great results (considering Joe is only 15yrs old too)!

Hugo Allan surprised a lot of people in the final round of the Toyota 86 championship in Taupo. The 16-year-old qualified fifth in his first-ever qualifying session in a race car. Hugh then finished eighth, 11th and eighth in the weekend’s three races. Not bad for someone still learning to drive!
