Y13 Geography Trip to Rotorua
On Sunday 20th June, Year 13 students departed for their last Geography field trip at Takapuna Grammar School to Rotorua. We travelled down to the North Island tourist centre to investigate the sustainability of tourism in this region. This was our first time going back down to Rotorua tourist venues since 2019 due to Covid. Students were able to investigate the impacts that border closures have had on the industry and see initiatives that have been put in place to try to sustain domestic tourism in this region.
In order to experience life as a domestic tourist, students bathed in the Polynesian Pools, traversed the Redwoods Treewalk at night and finally raced down the luge with only a couple of minor collisions! We also experienced some fine dining at a buffet dinner at the Novotel with students only complaint being that there was not enough time to sample everything. It was a fantastic trip away with a great group of Year 13 students who will now take these learning's and use them to gain credits in an accompanying internal assessment.
