Special Education Faculty

Takapuna Grammar School’s Special Education Faculty is the only example of its kind on the North Shore. Our Faculty is embedded into the culture of the wider school and offers an inclusive community feeling while providing specialist teaching and learning.

Our students are verified under the Ongoing Resourcing Scheme (ORS) and we cater for students with a range of physical and learning challenges.

We can provide a wide range of opportunities for students to be involved with the wider school, with suitable students being in mainstream classes through to others engaging in social opportunities in daily whanau form time and house activities.

Teaching and Learning

Our curriculum is focused on the needs of our students and is underpinned by a student’s individual education plan. Our programmes include literacy, numeracy and physical education as well as a varied programme of functional life skills that include travel training, food technology and work experience opportunities. The curriculum is delivered through a mixture of whole class, small group and individual lessons.

Therapy

We have an on-site therapy team comprising occupational therapist, speech and language therapist and physiotherapist. Being on-site allows our therapy team to be proactive with support when needed.
