
The program supports talented young athletes by helping them balance their sporting commitments with their academic responsibilities. Students will explore how the body works, how athletes train effectively, and how scientific principles can be used to improve performance.
Throughout the course, students will:
Develop a deeper understanding of sports performance and exercise science.
·Learn how the body responds and adapts to training.
·Explore different methods of training and conditioning that can be applied to their chosen sport.
·Gain insights into nutrition, recovery, goal setting, and athlete well-being.
·Build leadership, resilience, and self-management skills.
·Analyse and improve their own sporting performance through practical and classroom-based learning.

Year 9 students will be introduced to the foundations of athletic development. The program focuses on helping students understand the key principles that underpin successful sporting performance and provides opportunities to apply these concepts in practical settings.

The Sports Institute caters for students from a wide variety of sporting backgrounds. While specialist coaching in every sport cannot be provided, students will gain valuable knowledge and practical skills that can be transferred directly to their chosen sport.
Entry into the Sports Institute is by application and should be discussed at your enrolment interview.

Building on the Year 9 program, Year 10 students will further develop their understanding of how the body functions and how to improve the various components of fitness. Students will continue to develop effective communication and will refine their training strategies and gain greater independence in managing their own athletic development.
A highlight of the year 10 program is the opportunity to attend a week-long camp at the Hillary Outdoors Centre in Tongariro. This unforgettable experience challenges students through a range of adventure-based activities that develop teamwork, leadership, resilience, and confidence.
