Curriculum & Learning

Curriculum Delivery

At Takapuna Grammar School, our curriculum delivery focuses on providing structured learning opportunities that align with our values and the qualities we expect from our students. Our curriculum is guided by principles such as high expectations, cultural diversity, inclusion, and community engagement. We deliver our curriculum through emphasizing key competencies outlined in the New Zealand Curriculum. Our aim is to enable each student to achieve academic success while also fostering personal growth and global citizenship.

International Baccalaureate

The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme is a qualification pathway for students in Years 12 and 13, providing University Entrance (UE). It is offered at over 5,000 IB World Schools across 153 countries.

Takapuna Grammar School was the first public school in New Zealand to offer the Diploma Programme, accredited in 2013. Established in 1968, the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO) oversees the programme, with thousands of teacher-examiners globally involved in assessing student work.

E-Learning

The Learning Behaviours of a Takapuna Grammar School Student: Behaviours are "how" students learn.

At Takapuna Grammar School, we prioritise Digital Citizenship to ensure safe and responsible internet use for teaching and learning. We believe in being confident and capable users of technology, using it for educational and leisure purposes, solving technology-related issues, respecting privacy and freedom of speech, and assisting others in becoming better digital citizens.

Special Learning

At Takapuna Grammar School, the Special Education Faculty stands out as a unique example on the North Shore, fostering an inclusive community within the wider school culture. Catering to students verified under the Ongoing Resourcing Scheme (ORS), we address a spectrum of physical and learning challenges. Our curriculum, tailored to individual education plans, emphasises literacy, numeracy, physical education, and functional life skills like travel training and work experience.

We offer varied opportunities for student involvement across mainstream classes and social activities. With an on-site therapy team comprising occupational therapist, speech and language therapist, and physiotherapist, we provide proactive support. In preparation for transition from secondary school, we prioritise work experience and life skills development, both within the school and in the local community.
